Cool Deck Paint
|
Cool deck paint can be s simple as choosing a non-traditional color to paint your entire deck, a wash, or painting interesting designs or a logo on one or multiple portions of your deck area. If you want to paint your deck a unique color, there really isn't any magic to it. Just pick a color that you can live with and be sure to apply a sealant top coat to protect the paint from weather and sun damage. If you opt to paint your entire deck a unique color, be sure that this is what you want. It's extremely difficult to strip and refinish a wood deck once it is covered with a shade of bright paint. Of course it's much easier to apply a somewhat different shade on top of the color you have chosen, but it is nearly impossible to get the wood back to natural grain without tons of time and effort. In fact, if you find yourself in this conundrum, it would be simpler to tear down the deck and start from scratch. Once you have chosen the color that you want, be sure to clean the deck surface of any debris. If the lumber is pre-treated, you may wish to sand surfaces so that the paint sticks even better. You should apply at least two coats of the color of your choice before applying a finishing coat of weather protecting sealant. Alternatively, a nice paint wash can have wonderfully unique effects. Simply take a color of your choice and dilute with water. Test the mixture on some extra boards and allow to dry so that you can see how the wash will look on your deck. Once you fid a mixture that you like, you're all set! Simply paint with the paint and water mixture, as you would with regular paint. The nice thing about using a wash instead of pure paint is that it's much easier to paint! It takes much less time to cover an entire deck when the paint is diluted with water. Simply apply the wash until it looks as you'd like it to. When you're finished, apply at least one coat of a weather proof sealant material to protect the deck and your stunning paint job. Another approach is to paint designs or even a sports team logo onto your raw wood deck and then protect the entire thing with weather proof sealing material. He only limiting factor here is your own imagination. Head out to your local hobby supply store. There are all kinds of stencils and tools to be found at your local art and hobby store than can aid you in your cool deck paint project.
