Cotton Fabric Mosaic Quilts
|
There are many cotton fabric mosaics on the market in quilts. One is called African Accents. With this kit, you use over 200-2" African print squares, all 100% cotton, one yard of quilt fusible preprinted grid paper for easy layout and assembly, plus instructions and lots of creative tips and ideas for a variety of other projects. This quilt is perfect for beginner and experienced quilters of all ages. So if you think you don't have enough experience for something like this, give it a try. You will be surprised what you can do with a little help from a kit and instructions. Another type of cotton fabric mosaic on the market is called watercolor quilting. This kit combines the fun and ease of watercolor quilting with the visual excitement of authentic African cotton prints. By carefully arranging the 2' squares so that one color range flows gracefully into the next, you can create an artistic, mosaic-style quilt. Traditionally, the watercolor quilting technique employs soft pastels, florals, calico prints and muted tones that, when sorted into lights, mediums and darks, create the effect of an impressionist painting. Instead, the African Mosaic Quilt Kit features the stronger, brighter colors and patterns found in the imported cottons, for a completely different take on this popular quilting method. The effect is fresh and dramatic, with prints imported from the West African countries of Senegal, Mali, Ivory Coast and Ghana. Quilters are encouraged to add non-African fabrics from their existing stashes as fillers and transition fabrics, assuring a truly unique result with every project. Suggested fabrics include batiks, iridescent, marbled and hand-dyed cottons, mudcloth, faux suede, basic quilt fabrics, velvets and raw silks. A variety of textures adds to the drama of the finished project. This kit was developed by Lisa Shepard. Her first mosaic style wall hanging is one of over 40 home decorator projects featured in her book. During lectures, classes and trade shows, it became clear that a pre-cut kit would be welcomed by quilting and craft enthusiasts who couldn't find the variety of African fabrics needed to recreate the project. So have fun with this cotton mosaic fabric project and many more that you decide to do. You will get hooked on working with cloth and your quilting will become addictive. It is a fun and easy hobby to develop. About The Author: Jordon Kelker has over 8 years of experience in the fabric decor department for a large retailing store.
