Many people enjoy having some pretty trees in their yard for landscaping, and one type of tree that many people enjoy is the crabapple tree. These trees are very beautiful and many people love them; however, as you probably know, these trees can be very prone to diseases. So, if you want to have a crabapple tree of your own, you may want to take some time to research these trees to find out what you need to look for when you are picking out one for your back yard. Common Diseases that Can OccurFirst of all, it is important that you understand the common diseases that can occur on a crabapple tree. One type of disease that often affects these trees is mildew. Mildew can occur when you have poor air circulation in the area. Another type of disease that may occur to your tree is scab, which can make the fruit have black and brown spots on it and can also make the foliage turn yellow and fall off of the tree. Fireblight can also occur and can make the stems turn black and the leaves will begin to look bad. Last of all, cedar apple rust can also occur and can stunt the tree, create some rust spots on the leaves, and it is a common problem with the crabapple tree. Top Resistant ChoicesOf course while there are quite a few common diseases that can occur to the crabapple tree, you will find that there are some types of these trees that are made to help resist these diseases. Here are a few great choices to consider that help to resist the common diseases that can occur. - Firebird - One excellent choice for you if you want a crabapple tree that will resist disease is the Firebird. You'll find that this tree is quite small and has red buts that will turn into white flowers. The foliage is a beautiful green and it has fruit that is bright red as well. - Purple Prince - Purple Prince is a great choice as well with beautiful rosy red flowers and a fruit that is dark purple. The leaves also are a greenish red and it does well at resisting disease. - Camelot - The Camelot is a wonderful choice and is a dwarf crabapple tree that has fruit of a burgundy color. The buds are pink, but when they open the flowers are white. - Royal Raindrops - Last of all is the Royal Raindrops variety. This variety is rather new and it has rosy pink flowers and fruit that are red and small.
