Crafts For The Elderly: Aged And Useful
|
Older people can be skillful enough to play with more than just Christmas cards made with things you buy in a children's store. That is why, today, crafts for the elderly aim for a different type of image. For those that like only the papier-mache, and the pipe cleaners, there is still room. But giving a sense of usefulness is now achieved by encouraging the elderly to continue doing what they have been doing for their entire lives. You will be amazed to see the beautiful jewelries, or knits, or other things that come out of these people's hands. And we do not talk only about skills that are practical, like quilting or building in wood. Besides crafts for the elderly, there are also arts for the elderly. Those that love to paint have a great chance to do so, some others still cater to antiques stores, where they contribute with restoration projects. The experience these people have is very valuable, and the idea of creating writing workshops for them, where they learn how to write their memoirs, is just great. Many elders have already written their memoirs on beautiful hand sewn books. Those that like plants also have the opportunity to design their own plant terrariums. There are many possibilities for the elderly to occupy their free time. They can make greeting cards, posters, ceramics, weaving. They can also cook or dedicate themselves to gardening. From so many ideas, there must be something for each and everyone of these people. People that suffer from some disease or experience mental deterioration cannot try all these crafts. Still, they have many opportunities to do something with their time. On the other hand, most of the older people today are far from being debilitated, which means that they can successfully accomplish the same things they did when they were young, without so much effort. Experience matters, and this is what the elderly should do, invest their experience in activities that will make them happy.
