Crystals:House Decorating Jewels

Crystals are a very delicate and beautiful collection to have in your home. Crystals sparkle and are the jewels that decorate your home. Crystals are great as little pieces of art throughout your home, or like many crystal collectors, it is a focal point. Many crystal collectors do a very important job of taking care of their precious jewels. Whether you collect crystal pieces or crystal glasses, taking care of you crystals is absolutely essential.

If you do in fact own a crystal collection right now or if you are planning to own a crystal collection, I suggest you find a safe place where you can store your crystals. Many crystal collectors love storing their crystal collection in glass cabinet, where it is displayed. Having a glass cabinet is a great idea because you are able to display your collection as a work of art, but at the same time, you are able to store your crystals in a safe location. If you own crystal glasses, be sure not to store them upside down, meaning the resting the rim. The rim is very delicate and reducing as much stress from the rim is a good way to preserve your glasses.

If you have crystal glass collection, be sure to carry them by the stem of glass and not anywhere else, such as the rim or base. I highly recommend you carrying each glass one by one to avoid anything from falling and breaking. If your crystal is breaking, don’t throw it out! You can still save your crystal by purchasing clear-drying epoxy glue. Carefully glue the pieces back together and let the piece rest under the sun for the piece stay together. Use mild detergent if you have crystal glasses with intricate edge designs or gold rims, this will not ruin the surface of the rims. Do not soak these crystal glasses in an ammonia solution, it will ruin the design.

I highly do not recommend you putting crystal glasses in the dishwasher, it is best to hand wash each and one of your crystal glasses by hand. But if you do choose to use the fisher, use a mild detergent and gentle cycle. When you are hand washing your glasses, be sure to use warm water throughout the process, if there is a change in temperature, don’t be surprise to find clouding and cracking on your glasses. A great tip when cleaning your crystal glasses by hand is filling up the flute or bowl of glass with hot water and leave the glasses to air dry, it will make polishing the glasses easier (less stains and smears). After the glasses are dry, start polishing the warm glasses with a cotton dish towel.

If you become very unfortunate and you start your glasses start clouding, try to remove it immediately. And if you can’t, you have to result to hard water stain removers, such as CLR to remove the clouding. If your case of glass clouding is really bad, use a very mild detergent with #000 fine steel wood. I do not recommend you using steel wool on your crystal glasses unless it is really necessary. When you are washing your crystal glasses, be sure to put a place rubber mat on the surface of sink to prevent any cracking or breakage of your glasses.

The best thing to make cleaning your crystal glasses easier is to remove any excess food that can harden on the surface of the glass. Try to remove any fresh lipstick stains as soon as possible, it will make your cleaning process a whole lot easier; therefore, you do not need to use as much pressure and force, which can scratch on damage the crystal. A great tip is adding a drop of vinegar to prevent hard water stains. Taking care of your crystal collection is very important. With the proper care and maintenance, one day you can pass it down as a very valuable family heirloom.
