DS, which stands for Digital Signal, is used to describe digital circuits and their classification after their format and the equipment involved. T is actually the same thing, and DS1 is the same thing as T1 and so on. The DS3 line can transmit data at speeds of up to 45 Mbps. This is about the same rate that 672 voice grade phone lines can achieve, which means that you get fluid streaming of video signal, as well as the ability to send and receive large chunks of information over the network. A DS3 signal is made of 28 DS1 signals. This is how they work: 28 DS1 signals are transformed into 7 DS2 signals. All 7 DS2 signals transform into one DS3 signal. A connection like this has two monthly charges: a local loop and a port charge. The first is the price for getting allowance to use DS3 from the Local Exchange Carrier; when a customer is further from the edge of the carrier's network, they will end up paying more for the local loop. If you want to get yourself a good deal, search a provider that is closer to you and that has a price that suits your pocket. For a business, renting a fraction of a DS3 line is a thing to consider. The company will end up spending less for the Internet service, and the fraction of the line can go from 3 Mbps to 45 Mbps. Another solution is to get a fraction of the DS3 connection. This means that the customer does not receive a full DS3, but one that has some channels turned off. You will still have to pay for the local loop this way. Fractional DS3 can be provided at low costs. You will receive a fraction of full bandwidth this way.
