Daschund - What You Need To Know About Your Dog
|
The original Daschund, also known as the German Daschund, weights up to 40 pounds. It can be used for hunting foxes and rabbits, or for finding an injured deer or a wild boar. The German Daschund is also know as a badger exterminator. How Does It Look Like? Crooked legs, a barrel shaped chest, loose skin and a long body are the main traits of a Daschund. They can have short and wiry hair, or long and smooth hair. You can also have a miniature Daschund, which has some particular traits. The main particularity is its weight, which is about 11 pounds, when the others are about 32 pounds. The color is also different, even if the Daschund hair is usually red or black and red. Some of them may look like rust, others like sable, a chocolate like hair is also a possibility and white is also an option. All these variations of colors are added to the black hair intermingled on the back, tail, ears or face. Be careful if you want to go with your dog in a competition. Some variations and combinations of color are not allowed in the United States and the United Kingdom. The Daschund Behavior The Daschund is usually funny, playful and loyal. Its intelligence cannot be ignored and it is also brave and it has a strong will. That will also bring some difficulties when it comes to training. But sometimes, the dog can be quite shy and it must be trained to be able to socialize very easy. An interesting aspect related to the Daschund is the temperament is connected with its hair type. Those with long hair are more relaxed and the eyes are deep and have a sweet expression. Their rich bark is easy to recognize and the snoring caused by the large lungs is also a trait. How About Their Health? Some may expect the Daschund to have many health issues, but this is not a rule. There are some problems that may affect them, though. For instance, they can have spine issues, which can be complicated by obesity. In order to prevent that, keep you dog from jumping off beds or walking too many stairs. They can suffer from intervertebral disc disease, that can be treated or corrected through surgery. As humans, the Daschund responds well to other methods of treatments, like acupuncture, chiropractic manipulation or physical therapy.
