Deck Paint
|
How about a bright orange deck or a faux texture finish to your new wood deck? There are all kinds of ways you can use deck paint to customize the look and feel of your deck area. From using a unique color to coat the entire deck, to paint 'washes' and individual designs, there's no limit to the style and art you can incorporate into your deck design. A wash can be a nice way to add a hint of color without coating the deck in a harsh and complete color. Plus, a wash will let the natural grain of the wood show through. In fact, a nice paint wash treatment will bring out and accent the fine details of the wood's grain. To apply a wash to your deck, simply choose a color and then dilute it with water. Have some extra deck boards on hand to experiment with. It may take several attempts to get the exact consistency and color that you're looking for. For the most part, a wash will be more diluted than you may imagine if you've never painted with a wash before. So don't be afraid of adding water to your mix. It will probably help to set out a collection of disposable bowls in which to mix your different wash mixtures. Apply some of the different wash mixtures that you come up with to your test boards. Allow the boards to dry completely in order to see what your deck will look like with the wash applied. Once you find the right mixture, you're ready to go! Simply paint as usual and be sure to cover with a protective weather proof sealing solution. The nice thing about washes is that it takes a lot less work to cover the entire deck, and additional coats are generally unnecessary, though you can apply additional coats if this suits your needs. You can also paint unique designs onto portions of your deck and then cover with weather resistant sealant. For example, go to your local hobby store and take a look at the different painting stencils and other creative devices and ideas. You may be inspired just from your trip. There are all kinds of stencils and even faux texture applications that would look great on a backyard deck! There are a number of helpful do it yourself type of websites out there with some great deck paint tips and ideas too. Take your time deciding on which deck paint is right for your situation and the style that you have in mind. Soon you'll have an awesomely unique deck design unlike any other for you and your family to enjoy! About The Author: Alphonso has been working in the home remodeling industry for last 5 years.
