Decorate In Style With Hanging Lamps
|
It wasn't that many years ago where we put little thought into our lighting. You'd plop a lamp in the corner, any old lamp would do, install a basic ceiling fixture and that would be that. And really just a few years ago the choices you had were pretty limited. But today consumers demand choices because lighting is an important part of every room's dcor. So what's popular in hanging lighting? Stainless steel is very trendy. In fact stainless is the number one choice in decorating. It produces a very popular modernistic dcor. You can even purchase stainless steel appliances. It's clean and futuristic and there's some excellent stainless steel hanging lamp choices. Other soft metals such as pewter, brushed nickel, and brushed copper are also very popular choices. Soft metals are fresh and sleek and go well with modern dcor or as accents in a more traditional dcor. The soft tones make them easy to blend with rooms that have many tones. A copper hanging lamp accented with copper table lamps can instantly make a room warm and inviting. Hand painted finishes are popular because they provide a great deal of texture and depth and a very personal touch to a room. Soft tones are popular and light flecks of gold and silver add a very classic touch. Your hand painted hanging lamp should add something to your room's dcor whether it is complimentary or focal. It works great in a more traditional room but the right lamp can also look great in a contemporary room. Timeless tradition is making a comeback as dcor takes on the look of the past looking for worn stains, weathered finishes, and beautiful patinas. Hand painted lamps with wear to the motif, metals with some discoloration, glass with some scuffing. Wear is key and it works great in a shabby chic or rustic atmosphere providing comfort and relaxation. Art Glass is very popular especially Italian glass such as Venetian glass. There are some drop dead gorgeous hanging lamps and the vibrant colors can really add to the room's mood. Art glass will work in every type of dcor as long as you choose appropriately. Crystal never goes out of style but it's not for everyone. Hanging crystal lamps look great in a high ceiling with excellent light shows. Crystal is always elegant, classy, and sophisticated, and it fits more decors than you might think. Detail is important. Detail from the intricacy of the fixture rails to the pull chain. Consumers expect quality in all aspects of the lamp and they aren't willing to settle for anything less. Refinement is a must! A well chosen lamp will make the difference between a room that's finished and a room that feels like something's missing. You should put as much consideration into choosing your lamps as you do every other aspect of your dcor. You need to consider but the functional and decorative purpose of the lighting in your room. For general lighting consider ceiling fixtures. Chandeliers are a great choice to create an atmosphere and for lighting and adding a dimmer gives you so much more in options from drama to function with the turn of a dial. Hanging lamps works well in foyers and areas with high ceilings. They also work great to make a statement in the room. Pendants are very versatile and a great choice for task lighting too. Hang one or many over your favorite chair. Table lamps, torchieres, and floor lamps make great complimentary lighting and they are functional too. Recessed lighting is tucked into the ceiling and works well for accent lighting. Track lighting is very flexible and affords good general lighting and quality. Wall mounted fixtures are great for accent lighting and general lighting. When shopping for decorative lighting here's some tips. 1. Bring paint chips and swatches with you, or any other sample dcor. It will help make it easier to coordinate colors and styles. 2. Set your budget before you start shopping and then stick to it. Lighting prices vary greatly depending on manufacturer, supply and demand, and other factors. 3. If you've seen the look you want in a magazine bring it with you. That will make it much easier for the salesperson to visualize what you are looking for. 4. If you can't find what you want have it custom made. Your lighting is important to the finished look of your room so don't settle for anything less than exactly what you want. Joanne is an author of Decorz.com.
