Diabetes Testing Machine: Accu-Check Compact Glucometer
|
Your life as a diabetic can really change due to this new, but simple technology. The system glucose monitor has the following characteristics: A 17 test drum is used, which prevents accidents that can occur during strip handling. When you press a button, the machine releases the strip and, after the test is performed, the strip is easily removed. The test results are saved for 7 days average; 8 seconds is the average time duration for getting the results. Blood for testing can be used from fingertips, palms, forearms, upper arms, thighs or calf, but the easiest way is to get the blood sample from the palm; You only need to give away a tiny drop of blood in order to perform the test; The glucometer weights very little and it can be carried in your pocket, being not much larger than a cell phone; The lancet device, called Softclix, is considered to be less painful than other glucometers use. The skin is protected and it is not wiggled from side to side; Accu-Check compass software can be used to download the test results to your computer. For smart data management, you can also use the infrared technology to transfer the results to your PDA. These features are extras; The glucometer has auto calibration. The machine will be coded automatically and it will prevent you to code it manually every time you need a new bottle of glucose meter strips; The Accu-Check Softclix Lancet Device has an 11 depth setting. According to your needs, you can set your own depth number, meaning how deep the lancet will penetrate the skin when taking the blood sample; The glucometer comes with batteries; It also has a small carrying case; Other features consist of a user's manual and a bilingual - English and Spanish - reference guide. The glucometer comes with a diary that keeps the test results and that may be handy. The glucometer kit has all the necessary items so the user can start testing and monitoring his or her blood sugar levels; One issue that deserves to be taken into account is the price for the diabetic supplies. The strips are used every day so their cost may be a problem. Medicare usually provides strip supplies for 90 days. This applies if you use insulin medication and, also, if you are on oral medication. But it is worth checking if you are eligible for a glucometer even if you do not take medication. To pay for the supplies assured by Medicare, there are some procedures to follow. For instance, some companies will choose to send your supplies and then bill the Medicare directly instead of you. But if you buy them from a pharmacy, you will have to pay them right away and then complete the necessary paperwork in order to recuperate your money from Medicare. Accu-Check Compact, developed by Roche, is one of the front of the line products in monitoring blood sugar. Through its features, that include the integrated drum strips and eliminate the user's role in handling the strips, Accu-Check Compact becomes more and more popular. With its Lansing device directly attached to the glucometer, the user will have to perform only one hand testing. The new machine, Accu-Check Compact Plus Glucometer, will have this feature included. It can be so much easier for senior citizens that are not often able to use their both hands to make the tests, due to other illnesses like arthritis. Overall, I would rate this machine, Accu-Check Compact, an 8 out of 10. This is because the Lancet Device can be difficult to use by older people. The top is not so easy to remove by someone that has arthritis or other ailment. It puts a damp on this glucometer, as other companies produce machines with easier to use lancet devices. I would suggest Roche to develop a lancet device that is more suitable for use of the senior citizens. But, we must keep in mind that the Accu-Check Compact Glucometer is one of the best products in its field that is sold on the market nowadays. One last advice would be to check with your doctor in order to find out the best glucometer for your use. About The Author: Deon Melchior is the Editor and Publisher of Article Click.
