For guitar players a pick is a major attribute. The tips of your fingers end up hurting when you play with your fingers. Playing the guitar with your fingers is slower and the large chords are harder to reach. In general these issues are minor to the real reason for using a pick: the sound is louder and brighter. Pop and rock stars need a pick to play the guitar. Americans decided to play with their fingers in the 1940's and that is when the restrained effect of country music was born. Do not let go or relax at any time. Holding the pick firmly will help you when strike those first few chords. Do not cover the entire pick with your hand, you need picking space. To get to know the feeling you should do some picking exercises. Strum the strings and hold on to the pick staying in the exact position. Do some strokes. Clear and sharp notes are products of strumming. Go upwards and go downwards, and do this slowly, one string at a time. To develop the technique that you need it is important that you hold the pick in a grip that is right and what you are taught in this course. Practice on your own with the manual that will coach you.
