Do You Need To Improve Your Singing Voice?

It is a hard thing to admit but if you know that you generally hit a few bum notes when singing and would like some help in holding a tune then following this quick guide should help you improve the basic skills required for in tune singing.

There are many techniques the professionals and semi professionals learn in training to help them achieve the best vocals they can. Even Mariah Carey likes to let out a good belch before hitting her amazing high notes and that probably has something to do with her diaphragm, which is the muscles that we all use to control our breathing.

Placing your hand on the top of your stomach as you are breathing will help you check if you are using your diaphragm correctly and if your hand is moving then you are breathing correctly and will have strong diaphragm muscles. Using and strengthening your diaphragm muscles will give you a much better vocal quality.

Relaxing yourself by stretching and relaxing your face muscles, jaw and vocal chords will also improve you vocal tones. There are many warming up exercises in terms of notes to hum or hit and these techniques can depend upon which works best for you but you need to have your chords nicely warmed and relaxed to give a better vocal performance. Even if you practice your song a bit, it should have an effect.

Having a moist pallet that is soft and relaxed can really help, so again after the warm up, go and get a good drink down you and rest your tongue just behind you bottom teeth.

In terms of how loud you are, don't overly strain to go louder because staying at a speech level will allow you to maximise you vocal range, meaning you will be able to reach higher notes not shouting and even lower ones.

This should help improve the quality of your voice but always stick to a song you know the words too and like. It always sounds better when you're enjoying yourself and really into the song. Try and pick a song that doesn't go out of your vocal spectrum because straining for notes that are either too high or too low can throw off the rest of your vocals too and lead to loss of confidence. Hopefully this guide will help you to give the best vocal performance you can without professional lessons, backing singers and a band.
