Do You Need To Weatherproof Patio Gazebo?

Your patio gazebo is a terrific addition to your outdoor living space. But are you wondering if you need to weatherproof patio gazebo?

There are all kinds of gazebo on the market made out of all kinds of materials but if yours is wood it's going to need a little help from you.

Wood needs to have a wood sealant applied. In fact this should be done at least once a year. Okay I agree that would be a perfect world but still you should apply it regularly.

By weatherproofing your gazebo you prevent the rain, snow, and general moisture from penetrating the wood and damaging the wood. Sealing the wood will increase the life expectancy of your wood and it will also keep it looking good.

Today we spend a great deal of time designing our outdoor living space. After all it has become almost as important as our indoor space. We spend a lot more time cooking and entertaining outside.

This is one reason for the increased demand for patio gazebos. They not only look great they protect from the elements. And not just the rain but also from the wind and the hot rays of the sun. Mother Nature can deliver some strong weather conditions and you don't want them to interfere with your outdoor entertaining.

That's why you need that gazebo! Now not only is it functional it's fashionable. There are plenty of different styles that you can choose from and all kinds of different canopy colors and designs.

There are also various frames used on the gazebos including wood, aluminum, PVC, stainless, and other man made materials. Wood is the only one that needs treating but it also looks much more professional and inviting than other materials.

Thomson's water sealant is a good one to use. Of course there are plenty of other excellent products. Apply as directed on the can. Often one coat is all that's needed but for wood that has not been treated for some time you should consider applying a second coat to help protect the wood.

Before applying your sealant you might want to stain the wood. There are many different stain colors available from natural wood tones to a full range of colors. You can also choose between a solid stain, semi transparent, and a transparent stain. Colored stains are a great way to tie your gazebo frame into your home.

Do you need to weatherproof patio gazebo? The answer is emphatically yes! Use a good sealant and then relax confident you've done everything you could to protect your wood.
