That is why you should schedule a complete exam with the veterinarian. Dogs that start to drink more water than they would normally may be suffering from dog diabetes. Pay attention to signs that your dog may be in pain, especially around the abdominal area. They may be laying only on one side or cry out when you touch them in that region. This pain is due to the pancreas being inflamed but proper care for dog diabetes can offset it. You can take action now to help reduce the risk of your pet being diagnosed with dog diabetes as well. A proper diet is one of the best ways you can do this. If your dog is obese then the risk increases. Make sure they eat food that are good for them and that they get plenty of exercise. If your dog is overweight, talk to your vet about a diet plan that you can follow. Female does are statistically twice as likely develop diabetes so keep that in mind if that is the sex of your pet. They often exhibit rapid weight gain or weight loss which can indicate they have diabetes. Keep a close eye on how often your dog urinates as well. If it is more frequent than normal talk to your vet. Should your pet have dog diabetes, it can be treated but it can't be cured. Work with your veterinarian to find the right treatment plan.
