Dormer Windows - A New Trend

Dormer windows can offer beauty to any home while adding additional space. Many people will decide to add dormer windows to their attic to add more light to the area. A dormer window refers to a portion of the roof that protrudes and has a window for viewing on the end. This can give a home great character and beauty. Often in the early 1900's dormers were added to the attic to add more livable space. A dormer adds more headroom and more light making the space accessible. Dormers then make the space just under the roof livable.

Today dormer windows are often added just for the appearance and appeal it gives to the home. From the street it will make the home look much larger and appear to be letting plenty of light into the home when in fact the dormer windows may be fake. Some homes will have dormers built in them when they are new but many more homes have them added much later. If you have wasted space in your attic or roof, then you too much consider adding dormers with windows. The attic floor then becomes the second floor of the home and the roof becomes the ceiling. This is easy footage that is available to add to your home.

Dormers turn your roof into a livable place and can add light and air to your new living space. If you are considering adding dormers to your home, then dormer windows are necessary. Dormers can be a very attractive addition to any home. Most dormers are formed by adding a sloping roof with vertical sides but some uncommon dormers can also be found in homes today. There are eyebrow dormers which almost appear to be the shape of an open eye, and there are dormer extensions which have a flat roof and are usually wide. Dormer windows can be any type of window which matches the other windows in the home. This helps the home keep a uniform appearance and is more appealing.

Dormer windows are becoming a popular way to add more living space to your home. Dormers can now be bought pre-constructed and though they are not considered a do it yourself project, a professional builder will have no problems adding them onto your home. The cost should be minimal since the dormers are already constructed and ready to install. Before considering adding dormers to your home, be sure to check your local city housing restrictions. Most homes are approved to add dormers while a few are turned down due to ceiling and roof joint placements.
