Dress Up Your Country Decor With Cottage Curtains

Your decor says a lot about you and your personality. It will make people comfortable when they enter or tell them just how serious things are. Your room speaks volumes about you. After putting so much effort into your country decor dont make the mistake of neglecting your window coverings. Why not dress it up with cottage curtains?

There are many different styles of cottage curtains that include anything from French lace to roosters to decadent trims. They are also available in just about any size you need. And of course there is a style that will sound every country room whether that includes swags, long panels, or gingham.

Not sure how to measure for the perfect fit. Not to worry well show you how. For accuracy use a metal measuring tape which wont flex. Measure the width of your window and then multiply it by 1 to 2 times depending on how much fullness you want in the gathers. If you are going to be using pinch pleats you dont have to double for fullness as it is built into the curtains.

The length you choose is really up to you. If you are going to be hanging near a heater of any type measure at least 4 inches above the heater. Measure from where you are going to put the rod to where you want the curtain to end.

Its that simple. Youll have the perfect curtains for your room. And here are some other great ideas to help you finish your country rooms decor.

Vintage dishes will make a great addition to the room. Consider blue and white china. It fits a cottage decor excellently. Add vintage vases and linens to a country kitchen.

Hide all those every day things like keys or notes in a basket thats a neutral room color. Put the lid on and nobody will every see those items that are a necessity but dont quite fit the rooms decor.

Change your flower pots to terra cotta and maybe add a couple of tin pots just to get a little contrast. You want to place lots of plants throughout the house. Choose plants of different sizes so that you can have pots of varying sizes.

When it comes to furnishing covers and accents use floral, calico, or gingham fabrics. And dont forget to add a couple of vintage quilts! You can create slip covers that are made out of a variety of complimentary colors.

Dont forget that folk art carvings and whimsical paintings can add plenty of charm and character. Frame advertisements for cosmetics or soaps from long ago. Even some of the old car ads look great framed and they are terrific wall decor.

Use fresh flowers whenever possible and silk if fresh just arent feasible. Place them in interesting containers such as milk pitchers, wine glasses, or any other unusual display vessel.

Consider using area rugs to help set that casual stone. And if you are thinking of installing a new floor covering go for wood floors. They are not only the most popular choice they are easy to maintain and they look great especially with an accent throw rug.
