Easy to Maintain Flowers for an Indoor Garden

Many people love the relaxation of gardening, but find that the volume of work in maintaining and outdoor flower garden is simply too burdensome. The perfect solution is to create an indoor garden. Not only will an indoor garden give you all the benefits of enjoying a peaceful and relaxing garden without all the problems and work associated with an outdoor garden, but it may also even improve your health. Most people are aware that indoor plants clean the air, but may not be aware of the many health benefits that are created.

A study conduct at the University of Agriculture in Norway found that indoor plants are capable of reducing sore throats, coughs, fatigue and other symptoms related to the common cold by as much as 30%. Taking advantage of all the benefits associated with an indoor garden does not have to be difficult-that is, if you know how to select easy to maintain flowers that will thrive under gentle care indoors. Easy to maintain plants include the philodendrums, sansevieria or snake plant, they are also sometimes referred to as mother-in-law's tongue. The umbrella plants or scheffleras are also easy to maintain as an indoor plant.

Ficus plants are some of the most popular plants to grow indoors, but you should take care to choose one that is easy to maintain from the many different varieties available. The ficus elastica, also known as the rubber plant, makes a great easy to maintain indoor plant when provided with medium to bright light and sufficient warmth. Also, don't forget the standard traditional favorite when it comes to easy to grow and maintain indoor plants; the ivy. It is not difficult to grow at all, having a variety of plants in your home will your home feel very natural.

While most flowering plants require much more attention, as well as light, in order to remain healthy and thrive, there are a few varieties that will do quite well indoors. The African violet makes a great indoor plant, adding a tropical splash of color and only requires a bit more care than a traditional houseplant, such as ivy. Begonias also make a surprisingly easy to maintain indoor flowering plant as do impatiens sultanii, sometimes referred to as the patience plant. The great thing about these two plants is that they both of these plants bloom year round.

Lucky bamboo is also a popular houseplant and for a very good reason. For those of you who either forget to water your plants or just do not like having to deal with another weekly chore, this is a perfect selection. This plant only requires a change of water every six weeks and not difficult to maintain. I suggest putting them indirect sun lighting because it prevents the stems and leaves from turning yellow. There is such a large selection of lucky bamboo, from baby bamboo to curly ones! They provide an oriental flare and good luck to your home!

For the ultimately easy to grow and maintain plant, choose a plant from the cacti family. They require very little maintenance and grow well in a sunny, well-drained area. For a houseplant that is both beautiful and edible as well as being easy to maintain, you may want to consider starting an inside container herb garden. This type of indoor garden is great to place on your kitchen windows sill, so that it's within easy reach when you need a fresh snip of a tasty herb to add some zest to a dish. Aloe plants are also very easy to grow and maintain inside and come in quite handy for use with the occasional burn or sunburn. With more than 300 species of aloe plants available, you can be sure to find one that suits your fancy.
