Electric Golf Cart

The electric golf cart has been around since electric motors were first used to power small vehicles. In fact, the electric golf cart was the first electric vehicle to be mass produced for private consumer use. The electric golf cart quickly caught on as a simpler way to get around a golf course.

Using an electric golf cart really cuts down on the amount of effort and time involved in completing a round of golf. Instead of spending all one's time lugging equipment from hole to hole, one can focus entirely on the game at hand.

Though the design of the electric golf cart has remained largely the same over the years, there have also been a great number of small improvements over time, such that many of he standard features have been greatly improved.

For example, the batteries used in most electric golf cart designs have been improved so that they can hold a charge for much longer periods of time. This means that golf carts do not have to be recharged nearly as often as they once had to be.

Also, the electric golf cart has become a popular as a form of neighborhood transportation. The term 'neighborhood electric vehicle' is reserved for those electric golf cart type vehicles that are used primarily for transportation in and around neighborhoods.

A neighborhood electric vehicle generally refers to a speed limited battery electric vehicle that does not travel faster than twenty-five miles per hour. Additionally, it is not uncommon for local law to restrict operation of neighborhood electric vehicles to driving on roads that have thirty-five miles per hour speed limits or less.

Since neighborhood electric vehicles are often modified golf carts, these vehicles are then modified in specific street operating ways. For example, it is not uncommon for neighborhood electric vehicles to be equipped with three-point seat belts. These are quite a deal safer than regular lap belts, and certainly much safer than having no belt at all.

Though many people feel that such vehicles travel slowly enough that seat belts are not a big concern, any moving vehicle can cause injury should an accident take place. The best way to protect yourself and fellow passengers from potential injury is to be sure that everyone uses a seat belt.

Electric golf carts that have been modified for neighborhood or general transportation purposes may also be fit with a number of other devices that make road operation safer. These items include windshields as well as windshield wipers, running lights, headlights, brake lights, reflectors, turn signals ad rear view mirrors.

Electric golf carts or modified neighborhood electric vehicles are great for low traffic communities or communities that offer special routes for these types of slow moving vehicles. However, using these slower moving vehicles on unapproved roads may be hazardous for riders, so do be careful about where you choose to drive your electric golf cart.
