Equipment and Weapons Used in the Gulf War

The Gulf War was a fought between the United States and Western Countries including Iraq. The United States ran one side of the war and received assistance from the United Nations. The Gulf War was not only important in helping to provide freedom and safety in the West, but it was also important for the type of weapons and equipment used.

Troops in the Gulf War, also commonly referred to as Desert Storm, were provided with a number of weapons and tools. All military troops are provided with a combat uniform and protective gear. Almost all soldiers were equipped with standard military weapons that might have included a gun or a knife.

In addition to the standard issue weapons and equipment there were a number of other things that were used in the Gulf War. These items ranged anywhere from helicopters, airplanes, war tanks, missiles and more. Many of these items were very important in the success and safety of the military troops fighting in the Gulf War.

The Gulf War was the first war where a global positioning system was used. This system is also commonly referred to as GPS. Global positing allowed military troops on the ground to navigate themselves through rough areas that they were unfamiliar with. Global positing was important because it allowed more combat maneuvers to be decided at the last minute instead of regularly be planned ahead days or weeks in advance.

There were a number of aircrafts used in the Gulf War. These aircrafts included the Apache helicopter, Stealth fighter jets, and a number of other aircrafts were used. The other crafts used where typically like standard airplanes. These airplanes were commonly used to transport troops overseas. In addition to transporting troops overseas these airplanes would also move bombs, missiles, and other common weapons used during the Gulf War.

The Apache helicopters used in the Gulf War had a number of purposes, but their main purpose was for attacks. The Apache mounted helicopter guns were often equipment with lasers to help improve the success of an attack. These helicopters would attack at all times of the day; however, they were often more successful at night because they were sometimes difficult to see.

Stealth Fighter jets were designed and a success during the Gulf War because they were often hard to detect on radars. Their design not only made radar detection difficult, but it made them extremely fast. Similar to the Apache helicopters, the Stealth Fighters were often difficult or even impossible to spot at night. They would often drop missiles or bombs on enemy targets.

Troops on the ground in the Gulf War often traveled in a military tank. One of the tanks used are referred to as M-1 tanks. These tanks offered troops a large amount of protection. In addition to protection they were also designed to provide a safe and stable ride over the rough terrain. The tank design and maneuvering abilities made it easier for troops to fire their guns while the tank was moving.

In addition to the above mention weapons and equipment the Tomahawk missile was also used in the Gulf War. This missile was jet powered and would be guided to a specific target. The Tomahawk missile and the other equipment mentioned above all helped to save a thousands of military lives each and everyday.
