Everything You Would Every Want to Know About Attic Ventilation

A good home is nothing without good attic ventilation. You will find that a good home attic ventilation system will add years of comfortable use to your home. Everyone wants a home that stays cool in warm weather and warm in cool weather, but without a good attic ventilation system, you will find that this is seriously lacking in your home.

So where do you start? You know you need a good attic ventilation system, but there are so many options and finding the right option seems darn near impossible. But your task is made a lot simpler because you understand the necessity. A good attic ventilation system will cover your home in a protective layer of safety, comfort, and elegance.

The first step to getting the right attic ventilation system for your home is to really take a look at that attic space. There are various dimensions, sizes, and degrees that your attic can hold. You will need to know various issues concerning your attic to get the most out of that attic. For instance, is your attic space simply a crawl space, or do you have a full attic with a couple rooms for storage? Each setup will need different types of attic ventilation, but that does not mean your chore is going to be more difficult.

A lot of attics have various things running through the attic. One such example is a fireplace. A fireplace will need to have special attic ventilation to function properly and to keep the heat from escaping into your attic. Another example is a bathroom vent. These usually will run through the attic space as well. You will need to make allowances for household vent and ducts that run through your attic. In addition, your attic will usually have its own ventilation turbines or vents.

You want your attic to breath. Stale, dead air in your attic will have a negative effect on the rest of your home. A good attic ventilation system will give you a lot of benefits including cleaner air in the rest of your home and a more steady temperature in your home. In addition, a good attic ventilation system will be less likely to cause or feed a fire in the unlikely event of a house fire.

Usually, you will not have to spend a lot of time thinking about your attic ventilation system if you do the job right the first time. You may need to insure critters are not sneaking in via your ventilation system, but for the most part, you can install and forget it until you need to perform regular maintenance on the attic ventilation system.

You will need vents at regular intervals in your attic which is obviously decided by the style and size of your attic. Usually, a small attic will need two vents per side at the bottom of the attic space. If you have a larger attic, you will need vents or turbine on top as well as at the bottom. You can always check with your local building codes to see what is required in your area for your own attic ventilation system.
