Local fabric store are now well stocked in extra wide fabrics to suit most any need. Quilt stores carry the extra wide fabrics also. This is so nice when finishing a quilt because you don't have to piece the back of it before you take it to be quilted. Forget about a seam in your quilt, with extra wide fabrics, there is none. You will find backing fabrics in most all quilts stores these days. Look for tone on tone backing fabrics to make that quilt back just as beautiful as the front of your quilt. White on white is also available in 108" , so look for this when you need this size. If your local quilt or fabric store does not carry the extra wide fabrics, just ask them to order it next time you are in. I'm sure they will be happy to help you. You can also find extra wide flannel fabric in white and ivory in your fabric store and online . This large fabric comes in handy when making a design wall. You don't have that seam in the middle of your design wall. Just tack the flannel up on your wall and there you have it, easy as one, two, three. Extra wide cotton broadcloth is available, so look for it next time you are sewing an extra large pattern in queen sizes. This comes in very handy as you don't have to waste a lot of fabric when you need something cut on the fold. Try the extra wide next time you are in the mood to sew. Extra wide cotton sheeting in 110" is something you will need if you are making draperies. This allows you to have a liner for your drapes without that seam down the middle. What a lifesaver! Time is on your side with extra wide fabrics. Benartex is one company that is making these extra wide fabrics to suit most any need. You can order them in whole yards or half yard increments. They come in 108" wide and are so nice when nothing else will do. Extra wide fabrics have not always been on the market. The ladies in olden times had to sew many fabrics together to get the size they needed when making large items or quilts. Fabric companies have started listening to their customers and have decided to accommodate them in all their sewing needs. Extra wide lengths in fabrics is such a blessing to so many that make draperies and quilts. The variety is also great, with more on the way in terms of color and design.
