Facts about Weather Stations
|
When it comes to weather, you always want to be well informed, and you need to know that you have the situation under control. Wheatear you have a party coming up soon, or simply want to travel some where, knowing the weather can help you solve a lot of problems like what cloths to wear, what places to visit. You can find all that out by the help of a weather station. A weather station- is a place where with the help of sophisticated technology, by the use of equipments and instruments, the monitoring of the weather takes place. The atmospheric conditioned are studied and measured by the help of five instruments: the thermometer, barometer, hygrometer, anemometer and rain gauge. The thermometer- is an instrument that helps climatologists determine the temperature, or fluctuations of the temperature. This instrument is the most useful one in a weather station, because is the most common one and tells scientists basic facts about weather. Also, a thermometer can be used by anyone at home to establish the outside or the indoor temperature. The barometer- is a device meant to measure atmospheric pressure and is a very useful instrument for climatologists, and of course for everyone, since weather affects us all. The barometer can be a liquid- based one, using water or mercury-based, or can be an aneroid barometer, using a small metal box to determine the pressure in the atmosphere. The hygrometer- is another instrument used in weather stations to determine the humidity in the atmosphere. The hygrometer basically consists of two thermometers, a wet and a dry one, meaning the wet thermometer is constantly kept wet. The evaporation of the water from the “ wet" thermometer lowers the temperature, so the real temperature is a bit higher than what the “ wet" thermometer shows. In a weather station, the humidity in the atmosphere is computed from the temperature shown by the dry thermometer, and the temperature difference between the two thermometers. There are other types of hygrometers used to determine the humidity. For instance, it is commonly used to stretch a human or animal hair under pressure, in order to determine the ambient humidity. Climatologists record humidity variations in writing, so that data can be read off the chart, and lately, the data is stock with the help of digital computerized technology. Anemometer - is an instrument used to determine wind speed and variations of the direction of the wind, regarding its velocity or its pressure. This helps the weather station be more accurate concerning future weather predictions. By the help of the anemometer, severe weather conditions, such as tornadoes or thunderstorms, can be predicted, and security measures can be taken. Rain Gauge- is a device used by meteorologists in the weather station, meant to measure the level of precipitation. It is expresses either in millimeters or inches , and sometimes even in centimeters. Weather forecast- Data concerning weather conditions, produced in a weather station, also helps the prediction of weather to come, in the form of what we call weather forecast. The weather forecast can be found on any weather station and is most of the times a reliable source for the upcoming days and weeks.
