Famous Ancient Capes Around The World



There are so many interesting places to visit around the world but some places have gained more notoriety then others. Check out these famous capes around the world and when you’re done why not plan to visit at least one of them?

The Seven Ancient Wonders of the Ancient World are by far the most famous capes on the globe. The mystery, secrets, and intrigue that surround these human accomplishments will keep you spell bound. In fact they’ve been mesmerizing people for centuries.

The first wonder is the gigantic stone structure that served as a tomb for the Egyptian Pharaoh Khufu. It is located near the ancient city of Memphis. Next is the palace with the legendary Hanging Gardens of Babylon built by King Nebuchadnezzar II on the banks of the Euphrates river.

The third wonder is the Statue of Zeus at Olympia. This enormous statue of the Greek Father of the Gods was carved by Phidias a great sculptor. Then there is the beautiful Temple of Artemis at Ephesus which was erected in honor of the Greek Hunting Goddess.

The fifth wonder is a fascinating tomb, the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus built for King Maussollos. Then there is the Colossus of Rhodes erected by the Greeks near the harbor of a Mediterranean Island for the Sun God Helios.

The seventh wonder was built by Ptolemy’s on the Island of Pharos and it is the Lighthouse of Alexandria an amazing feet.

Another famous cape is the megalithic ruin known as Stonehenge which stands on the open Salisbury Plain just outside Amesbury Wiltshire in South England. This is not one structure but rather many including stone, timber, and earth structures that date have been revised over a period of 1400 years. It is believed the construction actually occurred in three stages.

The first phase was thought to have been built between 2950 and 2900 BCE and it’s the earliest portion. It is encompasses a circular bank, counterscarp bank of about 330 feet in diameter, and a ditch. Inside the bank of earth is a circle of 56 Aubrey holes that held wood posts.

The second phase was thought to have been constructed between 2900 and 2400 BCE. The Aubrey Holes no longer held posts but rather were partially filled with cremation deposits.

The third phase was thought to have been constructed from 2550 to 1600 BCE and includes the Sarsen Circle and Trilithon Horseshoe which include a monument made from a complex sequence of large stones set. The Sarsen Circle is about 108 feet in diameter and the stones are evenly spaced standing about 13 feet above the ground.

The Sarsen Circle is hard grain sand stones held with siliceous cement. The Trilithons are ten upright stones that are arranged as 5 pairs that are freestanding. The 4 Stations Stones are also part of Phase III. This is truly a priceless gift from our ancestors!

The Great Wall of China is also recognized as a famous caper. A symbol of China’s greatness it’s truly an amazing achievement that snakes around mountains and valleys and up some incredibly steep angles.

And then there are the famous Egyptian Pyramids. The pyramids of Egypt are magnificent structures dating back to 2700 – 2500 BC. These pyramids were tombs for pharaohs like the Great Pyramid of Khufu which is the largest of all the pyramids encompassing 13 acres and made up of more than 2 million stones.

The Pyramids at Giza are thought to be more than 11,000 years old which were constructed at the same time as the Sphinx. And then there is the Pyramids of Teotihuacan which rises 20 stories high above the central Mexican highlands.

The pyramids are truly a thing of grandeur, mystery, and intrigue that will keep you pondering for quite some time.
