In order to break the color of the coat paint, you can use the sponge and the brushes. If you want to obtain a glaze that is more translucent, you can add stainers or some oil paints, along with the same amount of white spirit. The procedure- You will first need to clean well the surface on which you will apply the faux marble painting. Make sure that the walls are free of any spots of old paint, before applying the undercoat. If you put the painting on walls, eggshell paint will be needed. - For getting a deeper effect, now you can add a layer of coat that will be used for applying all the other finishing effects. You can tint the basecoat with grey oil paint and then, with a sponge, you can design some mottled areas. - Now it is the time to play with oils and brushes. Drag some diagonal veins on the basecoat. The best colors that you can use are burnt sienna or dark grey. These work well on white marble, while on black marble, the green hues are recommended. - The veins can be made to stand out, by stressing them with a darker tone. A soft brush will get the necessary effect, when you use it on the veins. - The natural sponge comes into play to help you create different variations. In places where more color is needed, just add some, and remove it from areas where less is wanted. - For the finishing, use the translucent glaze. The natural appearance can be obtained, if you use a coat of glaze in umber hues. After that, a clear gloss will give another tint of naturalness to your new painted wall. If you use a satin based coat, you will get a deeper tone to your finishing. This is the procedure that you can use in order to make your own faux marble painting.
