Feed Your Kids Healthy Snacks

There’s no question about it kids love to munch and snack throughout the day. In fact studies have shown snacking is important to a child’s overall well being. So why not feed your kids healthy stacks and grow healthy kids. Children develop and grow very quick and the more active your kids are the more energy they burn. So they need good healthy snacks to feed them the essential nutrients they need. Children’s stomachs are very small so they can’t eat a lot at once. But they are active so they burn up energy really fast and that’s why they are always looking for snacks and that’s also why we should provide them with snacks when they are hungry. You may have noticed it yourself. If your child gets really hungry all of a sudden their mood changes and they get irritable and downright cranky. That’s because they’ve depleted their energy levels. As soon as you feed them a snack, they bounce back and their mood changes back to their happy self. Lack of energy causes a Jekyle and Hyde effect. Healthy snacks keep your children’s energy up between meals and they can also play an important role in the daily nutrient intake of your kids. At first your kids may fight you on the healthy snacks but use some child psychology and trick them a little. Present appealing fun foods that are healthy and before long they’ll be begging for more. Healthy snacks will also encourage healthy eating habits for a lifetime. And what parent doesn’t want their kids to grow up to be healthy adults. One way to get your children to buy into eating healthy snacks is to let them have a say in choosing those snacks. Take them along to the store and let them play an important role in picking out their snacks and even in preparing them. Snacks that are healthy are high in nutrients. Good nutrients come from vitamins, minerals, fat, protein, carbs, and water. So choose snacks that have one or more of these nutrient bases. Cereals and grains provide carbohydrates, Vitamin Bs and fiber. They are high energy foods which allow your kids to be active and they also are food for growth. Snacks with a cereal or grain base are excellent choices. You can make up your own nuts and bolts mix or trail mix then package in individual snack packs. You can provide your children with granola or cereal bars, or you can even let them munch on their favorite cereal dry. Fruits and vegetables provide carbohydrates, fiber, and Vitamins A and C. The RDA is 5 servings of fruits and vegetables a day. It’s easy to provide kids with snacks from this group. Cut up carrots, celery, peppers, or any other favorite finger vegetable. You can even supply them with a dip. Cherry tomatoes and cucumber slices are also popular. Fruit can be fed to them whole, sliced, diced, dipped, or any way you choose. Here are some other snacks that you might not think of because they aren’t as common. Single serving pizzas, baked potatoes, and tortillas or tacos are healthy choices. Muffins are also a healthy snack and with so many different types available you’re bound to find one your kids love. Feed your kids healthy snacks and you’ll be rewarded with children that are happier, more alter, have more energy to burn, and that are healthier.
