Fertilizer Applying Equipment - Is It Needed?
|
With so many different fertilizers on the market and so many equipment options trying to decide what is right for your lawn can be a bit overwhelming and confusing. In fact it can become so confusing that you just decide not to bother which is the wrong decision. What brand is best? How often should you apply it? Which product should you choose? What equipment do you need to buy? Who can you believe? These are all very common questions. Let's take some of the mystery out of it right now. Just a couple of things to remember and the rest will become much easier.1. Don't believe all the hype you read instead learn about the ingredients in fertilizer so you know what you are buying.2. You only need a basic fertilizer spreader for granular applications nothing expensive or complicated and liquid only requires a sprayer that attaches to your garden hose.3. Know what type of soil you have and what it needs.4. More doesn't always mean better. Your grass is really nothing more than another one of your garden plants. It simply covers more area. It needs the same basics as any other plant - food, water, and nutrients. The right combination will reward you with a beautiful healthy green lawn. The start to a healthy lawn is healthy soil for unless the soil is healthy the root system will not be able to take hold properly. Your grass also need watering regularly. Some types of grass require more than others so know what your grass needs. Your grass also needs food which is found in your fertilizer. Nitrogen is an important nutrient to your grass and if you want healthy turf you'll need to feed it throughout the season. That's pretty basic isn't it? Now you need to decide what you can provide for your lawn. Start by answering these simple questions. How much time can you dedicate to your lawn? What's your commitment? What do you need to do that you haven't done in the past? If you are going to grow grass from seed you are going to need a very rich soil. If you are laying sod that's not nearly as important. If you are trying to bring back existing grass that's on the rough side you'll probably need to make some soil improvements. Lawn soil is not that difficult to fix. You don't have to replace it just add a few additives and adding a little new top soil never can hurt. Before you start feeding it additives you need to find out the current pH of your soil is. And of course feeding your lawn is critical. Choosing the appropriate fertilizer is much easier once you understand what your lawns needs are. On the fertilizer bag you will see three numbers. For example 10-5-5. The first number will always be nitrogen followed by phosphorus and then the potassium. Each of these numbers represents how much of each of the nutrients is in the fertilizer. When it comes to caring for your lawn all you need is basic fertilizer applying equipment and the right fertilizer and you'll have that lawn the neighbors are talking about!.
