Fertilizer Injection For Nutrient Deficiencies In Trees
|
Studies have shown that when the soil around the tree is injected with fertilizer that includes nutrients such as zinc, magnesium, and iron there is almost immediate improvement in the color of the leaves and the overall healthiness of the leaves. It's like an instant face lift for your trees. Although there can be instant improvement in the color of the leaves and the overall look of the leaves what one must understand is that this type of treatment will not build sustainable healthy trees. In order for it to have long term effectiveness a proper management program that incorporates correct fertilization on a regular basis is essential. You should also be aware that injection sites can cause potential problems. They are a portal for pathogens and pests that can cause cankers on the trunk and even trunk splitting as well as structural defects that may cause the tree to actually become a danger. Trees that have been injected are more susceptible to insects and pest problems probably because the nitrogen level increases overall. So unlike the value of injections for animals and people the true value to plants and trees is still somewhat controversial. If the soil around your trees is poor there may be better alternatives than injections. Replacement of the soil or adding nutrients to the soil may be far more beneficial than injections into the trunk of the tree could ever be and they would certainly be much longer lasting. Leaves that yellow are not necessarily an indicator of poor soil nutrients. You'll want to test. In fact you should always test before any fertilizer program is initiated. Remember fertilizer doesn't cure nutritional defects nor does it address problems caused by disease, pollution, pests, or other stressors. All fertilization programs should include weed and pest management also. Fruit trees can always use a little extra TLC to ensure that they produce delicious fruit and plenty of it. Make sure you choose fertilizer that is appropriate for fruit trees. And of course other trees could use a little lift too. There are fertilizers designed for just about every type of tree, shrub, or bush on the market. Besides fertilizers there are other products that can help your trees become healthy and stay healthy. If you decide to use a fertilizer injection system there are several options on the market such as the T.O.W. system, Yetter Portable Solutions, Kenco's, Priva system, and the Sprayflo system to name just a few. Before treating any of your trees the first thing you need to determine is what the underlying cause of the problem is. Then you will be able to determine whether a fertilizer injection is the appropriate treatment or whether there are better options available.
