Find Out The Benefits Of Buying Organic Produce

Are you becoming frustrated with purchasing produce that is not fresh or has been genetically engineered? Why not find out the benefits of buying organic produce?

You would think that you could walk into your local grocery store, choose your produce, and go home with produce you would be happy to feed your family. Produce that’s rich in the nutrients we need to stay healthy. But that’s not always the case in our modern world.

In an effort to make our produce higher in nutrients, quicker to grow and ripen, and with the ability to last longer on the shelf, modern man in combination with technology developed what is known as genetically modified produce. They suppliers believed these foods would be more appealing to the consumer because of their added benefits.

However, studies are indicating that genetically modified foods may not be the bigger better solution that was dreamed. In fact studies are showing that genetically modified foods can actually be hazardous to your health.

One of the biggest problems is that there are very few regulations when it comes to suppliers modifying food so they are pretty much free to genetically modify as they wish. The other problem is that there are no long term studies on the effects that genetically engineering is having on our health. The short term studies are looking rather grim, but it will be awhile before any long term studies are completed.

Over 75% of the produce you buy at your grocery store has had some type of genetic modification. Top that off with the vast array of insecticides that are used on produce and our food source looks in serious trouble.

Another problem our current produce is facing is the methods of modern farming attempts to utilize the land to its optimum ability. One way of doing this is by rotating crops. This means that one acre of land is no longer used for just one type of crop. Rather different crops are planted on it each year in an attempt to improve the fertility of the soil. The problem is the soil never gets a chance to rest and replenish the nutrients that are so important to our food chain. So the food grown on crop rotation farms has very little nutritious value in it.

The other problem we face is that produce we buy is often not fresh. It is picked before it is ripe, transported half way across the planet to the grocery store and by the time we get it, it’s actually old and most of the nutrients have seeped away.

So it’s no wonder people are beginning to look at organic produce as an alternative choice of produce. The nutrient value in organic produce is 3 to 5 times higher. The rules regarding the use of pesticides are very strict, and the soil is used in the more traditional method of plant, sew, reap, rest. And because most organic food is grown in the local area where it is harvested it is much fresher. So it’s easy to see why it is much better for our over all health to choose organic produce.

You’ll almost instantly notice something else with organic produce. The taste! A tomato tastes like a tomato, a cucumber tastes like a cucumber. Regular produce in all its engineering and scientific hoopla seems to have lost most of the flavor that was so appealing to the tastes buds. With organic produce you will instantly notice how good it tastes! You’ll crave fresh fruits and vegetables like you use to before they all began to taste the same.

Although there are no studies available on organic produce logic would say it is going to be much healthier for you than the regular produce we buy. It’s a good place to start to increase your nutrient uptake and benefit your overall health.

Organic produce will cost you a little bit more but it’s certainly worth every penny. Why not find out the benefits of buying organic produce for yourself? Try it – you’ll be hooked immediately!
