Finding The Best Organic Protein Sources

In order to have a perfectly balanced diet, one must consume the right amounts of protein. Sometimes this can be difficult for those choosing to eat only wholly organic foods. So many of today's food sources are treated with dangerous pesticides and chemicals or fed genetically altered food sources themselves. While organic fruits and vegetables are becoming more popular and readily available in most of our grocery stores, good quality, organic protein sources can be hard to come by. There are a few ways to ensure that you get the right levels of protein you need to function while maintaining your healthful, organic diet.

Finding meats that are free of chemicals, hormones, and fillers can seem nearly impossible in a regular grocery store or supermarket. Your best bet is to search out local farmers and rancher who butcher and sell their own meats. They will generally be happy to tell you about just what their animals have been eating and may even be able to point you in the direction of someone who has what you need, if they can't supply it. Some local owned, mom-and-pop type butcher shops also cater to the needs of those who wish to live an organic lifestyle. Asking around is the best way to find an organic protein source in your area.

Grocery stores are beginning to realize that people want healthier foods that haven't been processed with a lot of chemicals. In your better stores and larger chains, the organic food section is growing all the time. You can usually find some great organic protein sources in these stores, such as peanut butters, organic eggs, and organic whole wheat flours. While many of these sources are incomplete proteins, you can easily combine them into meals to get all the benefits of complete animal proteins without using animal products or straying from your organic food choices.

If you still feel that eating organically is sacrificing your needed dietary protein, consider using an organic protein supplement. You can find plenty of protein supplements that are certified organic and that are free of hormones, chemicals, and pesticides. Just carefully read the labels and only buy from trusted names. These supplements come in a variety of forms. There are pills, powders, shakes, and meal replacement bars, no matter what your nutritional and dietary needs. There are whey supplements, soy supplements, and vegetable supplements available in every form. Some are even produced specifically for those with a vegetarian or vegan lifestyle.

While it may take a little bit of work to find the best sources of organic protein possible, it can be done. Don't be afraid to ask questions of retailers and search around for local farmers who specialize in organic foods. Never forget that you can always find a great organic supplement to get any additional protein and amino acids your general food consumption isn't providing. Make sure you have the best possible sources of nutrition, from protein to all needed vitamins for the best in health and fitness.
