Finding The Right Digital Camera

Finding the right digital camera for you is a very tedious but by going over a few decisions you can find the right digital camera for you. As digital cameras are very different compared to the film cameras, since there are a lot of other specifications you will have to look into before purchasing the one that fits your needs. Digital cameras come in different resolutions, storage methods and so on. While the price range of digital cameras range from $150 all the way up close to $3000. For casual usage most consumers will not have to look at anything passed $600 for a digital camera to fit their needs. Digital cameras are relatively new to the public since the prices have dropped significantly compared to the beginning. The price will continue to drop as the technology behind the digital cameras continues to grow.

Having a digital camera allows you to easily upload you pictures on to your computer. And depending on what kind of computer platform you have will affect the digital camera you buy. There is couple of computing platforms such as Mac, Windows and Linux. A lot of the current digital cameras can operate through both Mac and Windows. But most only comes with more software for one than the other, or sometimes the software will only be for one computing platform only. So it is very important for you to keep in mind what platforms your digital camera operates under. Sometimes digital cameras will only use one platform, and in most cases it will only be Windows that is employed.

The image quality that you want from your digital cameras is an important factor involved in the purchasing process. If you were a professional photographer wishing to change from film to digital photographer than image quality will be very important for you. The higher end digital cameras will be able to deliver the same quality if not even better than film cameras. But majority of us are not professional photographer, so we are obviously not willing to spend over $600 for a digital camera. So image quality wise normal users’ needs can be satisfied with a digital camera between 3 to 4 megapixels. None the less colour quality should be considered in part when you purchase you digital cameras, as some cameras will not produce the right colours sometimes.

Onboard Image Capacity is one component of the digital camera often causes some confusion to the most buyers. Onboard image capacity is the amount of storage your digital camera can hold without using a removable flash memory. Most buyers usually think the more onboard image capacity the digital camera comes with the more image it will be able to store. That is a big misconception since more onboard image capacity will not usually lead to more storage. One of the biggest reason is because usually with the additional space it also means the megapixels of the camera will increase as will, and when the megapixels increases the size of the images will also increase as well, leading to around the same amount of images stored. But you can store more images on your digital camera’s onboard image capacity, but in the expense of quality. So don’t be tricked by the increased onboard image capacity.

Digital cameras allow the user to pick the amount of memory they want on top of the onboard image capacity that is already with the camera. They are removable memory since it is only a card or a stick that can easily be removed from the camera and plugged into either another camera or computer. They also come in different size ranging from 64 MB all the way to 1 GB currently. It is also recommended that users should use multiple memory cards at a time; this will help reduce the trouble if your memory cards were to become corrupted. If you were to only use a 1 GB memory instead of four 256 MB, when your 1 GB becomes corrupted you will lose all your photos. While if you used four 256 MB cards and only one were to become corrupted at least the other three’s images will be safe.

Digital cameras can perform more task than a film camera. Most digital still cameras can not only just take still images, but also video clips. Even though the video clips taken by the digital still cameras will not be as nice as digital video camcorders it is still a nice feature from the digital cameras. Most digital still cameras can record long video clips depending on the memory you have left and the amount of money you are willing to spend on a camera. But if you are willing to spend a few more dollars then the video feature is good to have and can come very handy at times.
