Finding and Keeping Eco Yoga Mats

If you are considering a yoga class, one of the most attractive elements of this type of exercise is the limited amount of equipment that is necessary. All you really need to do yoga is comfortable workout clothes and one of the many eco yoga mats available today. With so many affordable eco yoga mats available, it can be difficult to find the one that is right for you. Why? Because the relationship that you develop with your mat can be much more significant than that of other types of fitness equipment. Why? Because you could potentially be using that mat for years to come, so you want to choose one that’s going to last.

Choosing Between Eco Yoga Mats

You’ll find there are a eco yoga mats available in a variety of hues and materials. One commonality you’ll find among eco yoga mats is that they have a sticky surface that enables you to safely perform poses. Once the sticky eco yoga mats are damp, from water or sweat, they will stick to the floor. From there, you can select a mat that will work best for the type of yoga that you plan to do. For guidance in this aspect of selecting a mat, you can ask your yoga instructor or do your research on the Internet. After doing your homework, it’s time to try out a some eco yoga mats and figure out which one feels right for you. And although it may seem shallow to select a mat based on color, keep in mind that you will be spending a lot of time looking down at that surface, trying to focus your energy. It will be easier if it is a color that you find attractive.

How to Take Care of Your Mat

Before using, most eco yoga mats will need to be broken in. They also need to be cleaned periodically. Your yoga mat may come with instructions. Follow any directions that came with your mat closely. The spin cycle on most top-load washing machines could damage your mat, so be sure to put it in front-load washers only. Putting your mat in the dryer can damage its sticky surface, so this should also be avoided. The best option is just to let your mat air dry, away from direct sunlight. If you do feel the need to place your mat in the dryer, use the low setting, and don’t leave it in for longer than ten minutes or so.

Quality eco yoga mats can last for years when they are cared for properly. If you choose a mat made of the material and color you like, then you know you’ll want to use it for a very long time.
