Floating Shelves - A Good Idea for Some Décor
|
If you have a room that sports sleek lines that have the effect of running seamlessly together, then floating shelves can be a good choice for that room. For instance, you have a room that is a basic black and white décor, with white walls, a black and white floor, and furniture that is either black or white. The furniture is designed in such a way that none of it has sharp edges. You would not want to ruin the flow of the room with a bracketed shelf, and you could actually add to the room's ambience by adding a floating shelf or two. You could choose white shelving with rounded or beveled edges, and then place things on them that are different shades of black. This could add a striking three-dimensional flavor to the room, without the distraction of brackets. In certain angles, the displayed items could actually look like they were suspended in mid air. Floating shelves can also look nice in a room where you want the effect of having the outdoors flowing into the indoors. For this effect, you want as little metal in your décor as possible. If the walls are paneled in a natural wood, you could put up floating shelves that are made out of the same kind of wood. If it is a log cabin and the inside walls reflect this, you can even cut each floating shelf so that it fits like a puzzle piece to the wall. On the shelves you could put such things as flowers and plants, or small wood sculptures, which would help pull together the natural outdoorsy look. It is easy to see how floating shelves, though designed to be less conspicuous than other kinds of shelves, can add depth and dimension to the décor of a room. You can have them installed professionally, or you can install them yourself. Though at first look they might seem difficult to build and install, with a good instruction manual you may find that you can build them with relative ease. About The Author: |
