Food Presentation - Appealing to the Eye and the Palate
|
Food presentation does not have to be that difficult. It's actually fun to use some creativity when presenting meals and dishes you have cooked. Think about what you are cooking and what goes along with it naturally, and then think about them in an artistic way. For example, if you have made an apple pie, think about what people like to have with apples. Many people love to have some good, aged cheddar cheese with apples, so you could actually slice some cheddar cheese and place it uniformly on a small plate next to the pie when you set it on the table. This is simple food presentation, but it makes people sit up and take notice. There's no reason to go overboard with food presentation. Often the smallest things make the best impression. Crème de menthe cake can be presented with a few small mint leaves around the base. A hearty stew can be presented with some carrot curls and celery leaves around it. You always want to think "complementary food", and definitely stay away from non food items. When people see something inedible next to a dish, no matter how nice it looks, they associate the food with it, steering their thinking away from how delicious it might taste. Use your imagination with food presentation. You might even want to take a class that specializes in it. When you can make radish roses and parsley bouquets, you are doing a lot to help make your dishes look more appealing to others. In addition, when people see that you've gone to the trouble to make your dishes look nice, they are sure to think that you've gone to the same amount of trouble to make them taste wonderful.
