Functions of Digital Photocopiers
|
There are two types of photocopiers, analog and digital. Recently, digital has been sweeping the world by its feet. Analog photocopiers are louder compared to digital photocopiers, they also work slower and have a tendency to break down more often. Digital photocopiers produces clearer and finer text lines and they are also able to photocopy pictures. Another great thing about digital photocopiers is that they work like network printers and fax machines all in one. If you do not like working a lot of functions, analog printers are less expensive and easier to function compared to digital photocopiers. Digital copiers are able to do the job of three functions, scanning printing and faxing all at the same time. The only disadvantage of having three functions is if the copier breaks down, you lose three functions all at once. You can also have digital copiers with color ink, like always, it costs more to refill color ink than black and white ink. If you have a typical business office and you tend to use both color and black and white ink, I highly recommend you buying a hybrid digital printer; it will save you more money. By adding a network card and a printer module, it enables you to use the copier as a laser printer as well and it saves you money. You may still want some traditional photocopier features on your digital printer, feeders are great if you often photocopy a package of papers. Instead of standing there yourself and manually watching as each paper copies, you can place the package in a stack and let the copier automatically take each paper to photocopy. A paper tray is essential for every photocopier. If you are a large business, you may want to buy a larger paper tray that holds about three thousand papers. There are smaller paper trays, which usually hold around fifty to one hundred papers. If have some documents that are confidential, you may want to purchase the 'image editing' function which allows you to water mark the documents. You can also combine and put more 2-8 pages on one sheet of paper, and you can also add the date to each document. Do you find yourself mixing up papers and then you have to sort them out yourself in sort bins. With digital copiers, the copier electronically sorts the paper, you know by the angle they are placed on the tray, so you won't mix up all your paper in one big pile. The bin-free sorting function allows you to make as many different piles of copies. If you have to assemble a lot of packages, I highly recommend you buying a 'finisher', automatic stapler that will help you staple packages together. Other functions include hold punching, folding and binding, finishers are additional features that will cost more. Look at the copier speeds on the photocopiers you want to buy, they are often measure by cpm (copies per minute), ppm (pages per minute), and opm (outputs per minute). Pages per minute are categorized by 6 segments. 15-20 cpm in Segment 1 and 91 and over cpm is in the Segment 6 category. For most offices, they tend to use Segment 2-4, which produces 20-50 cpm. If you photocopy double-sided, then you should expect the copies per minute to be produced at a slower pace. You can always by the 'stackless duplexing' function, it allows you have double-sided copies much faster by storing each side on memory. Digital copiers are multifunctional and I would consider them a definite investment because it increases productivity in your office.
