- Charades: A classic favorite, charades is a game that usually pits teams against one another. One person on a team chooses a piece of paper with something written on it. Usually it is the title of a movie, book, or song, or a famous quote. Then, without speaking or spelling out any words in any way, he or she tries to get the team members to guess what is written on the piece of paper within a certain time limit. This is often done by trying to get them to say words that sound like the words on the paper, or that sound like the syllables. You do whatever you can to get them to guess what is written on the paper without talking or spelling anything out. This is one of the most famous - and fun - games to play at parties, and can really get people animated and laughing.
- Twenty questions: Another one high on the list of games to play at parties. Think of the old show "What's My Line" and that is basically how "twenty questions" is played. You think of an object and then people try to find out what that object is. They get to ask twenty questions in all, and they usually take turns. The catch is, the questions have to be ones that require only "yes" or "no" answers. If someone guesses what the object is before the twenty questions are up, they win the game. If nobody guesses, the person who is being asked the questions wins the game. Of course, the person answering the questions has to be truthful with his or her answers.
- Which is the lie: This is a great game for getting to know one another. Each person writes three things about themselves that are the truth, and one thing that is a lie. The lists are then read, and the other people try to guess what the lies are. This is one of the most revealing games to play at parties.
Games can be a wonderful way to get a party going and keep it going. The best instruction for all games is to simply enjoy yourselves.
