A patient that had gastric bypass is in need of a lot of proteins, so the egg is considered to be the best food for his or her diet. A large egg has about 6 grams of protein and it is one of the richest sources of protein. This makes the egg the basis of a good nutrition, next to milk.

Many diets suggest that eggs should not come on first place, as they are a great source of cholesterol, as well, and cholesterol, when it reaches high levels in the blood, increases tremendously the risk of heart disease. Still, proteins are needed in the body, and the cholesterol intake is not something that must be eliminated altogether from ones diet. It is considered that a low fat diet allows the person following it to have one or two eggs a day without the fear of getting too high cholesterol levels in the blood. A bypass equals a low fat diet and that is why eggs are allowed for these patients and even recommended in their recipes. If you want to know more about this, a visit to a nutritionist will make things clear for you.

Here are a few facts about eggs. One big egg equals 4.5 grams of fat (one third being saturated fat), 213 milligrams of cholesterol and 70 calories. Besides being rich in protein, an egg also has some sodium, and vitamins and minerals. Biotin, B vitamin, calcium and cephalin are on the list. Another great vitamin the egg contains is vitamin D, which, along with little exposure to sun, makes for an important addition to the body and mind. There are also other advantages: eggs are easy to cook and they are an inexpensive food. One hard boiled egg in the morning will get you started.

Eating hard boiled eggs every day may become boring once in a while. Combine them with other foods, like whole wheat crackers or English muffins, and you will create some interesting recipes.

Breakfast idea

Take four hard boiled eggs, a quarter of a cup of low fat Cheddar cheese, two and a half tablespoons of French dressing with bacon and tomato flavors, four waffles, some bread slices, and tomato wedges, along with some parsley.

Put the chopped eggs, the shredded cheese and the dressing in a bowl and mix them well. Let them chill and then put some of the mixture in two waffles. You can then put them in the oven for several minutes to let the mixture get into the waffles. Use the tomato wedges and the parsley as decoration, and put the other two waffles on top.

Here are some tips on boiling hard eggs. Put the eggs in a saucepan, so they are all on the same level. Cover them with tap water, so they are perfectly immersed. The covered pan is then brought to a boiling point, and then removed from the heat source. The eggs must stay in the hot water for about one quarter of an hour. To cool them down, place them in cold water.
