Gecko Pet

You might also notice that your leopard gecko's tail appears to shrink, they become skinny and perhaps inactive (sleeping, moving just to go to sleep again). Perhaps your gecko used to be energetic, even feisty and now he becomes very still and flops over in your hand when you pick him up. Geckos are a fun and interesting way to enjoy a small pet in your home. You could get a few different ones and set them up nicely in different parts of your home. They make very good pets and great conversation pieces. Geckos are very beautiful and there is quite a variety of them from different parts of the world. Another point you've probably read or talked about before bringing your pet home is that it should be quarantined from other animals. This is best for the new animal and for any existing reptiles you might already have. Never introduce a new gecko into the enclosure where others are living. We are Leopard Gecko enthusiasts who were tired of finding incomplete information about our pet Geckos. We enlisted the help of some serious gecko enthusiasts, breeders, owners, and veterinarians who helped us compile information for people who just wanted to know how to take care of their Leopard Geckos knowledgeably and safely. One of these factors is the color and pattern you'd prefer your new gecko to have. You should choose one which you find attractive; geckos can live a long time, so select a color you enjoy looking at! You'll also need to know how to properly care for your new pet. You have to know what to feed your leopard gecko, when they need to be fed and as much as possible about their behavior. Having a Leopard Gecko as a pet appears like the ideal situation for younger folk who love the prehistoric look and the modern day personality of a reptile that will actually eat from the hand, as against eating your hand! These colorful pets provide a nice addition to a sitting room and provide a great conversation piece. They are called dinosaurs in small packages by some. Geckos eat mostly insects and actually live very well right along with people when those people will let them. If your gecko appears to have constipation, diarrhea or suddenly loses weight, parasites may be the cause. This can be treated by changing and thoroughly cleaning their habitat and using medication - you'll likely need to get this from your vet. Once you have acquired your pet, created its housing, set up its nutritional needs, and let it settle in, it is time to get acquainted. So in general, try not to handle your gecko on a regular basis until they settle in for a few days and are at least 6 inches in length. Warmth is something else your leopard gecko needs. Unless you live in a particularly warm climate, you're going to need an under tank heater. These heaters are meant to be attached to the bottom of your gecko's habitat and will keep one side of the aquarium warm so your pet can be warm or cool according to their needs.
