Generalized anxiety disorder arises when you are worrying about family problems, health issues and money. These stressors (or stressful situations) cause disturbance in your neurotransmitters in the brain (chemicals that carry signals across nerve endings such as norepinephrine and serotonin).
However, you needn't worry about it. There's excellent treatment for the generalized anxiety disorder. It's 'Cognitive Behavioral Therapy' (CBT).
You will understand your own 'behavioral processes' involved in anxiety with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. You will be able to see your thinking patterns and reaction to them (the way you behave). This is very important part in eliminating anxiety.
You will also learn how to focus and know your negative self-talk. Knowing how to examine your spontaneous thoughts and observing ways in which they distort reality is most important. You need to know this if you want to treat your generalized anxiety disorder completely.
Let's take a situation and try to under stand how to look at things with CBT. The situation is: You've had a bad day, feeling fed up. So you go out shopping. You are walking down the road. Someone you know walks by, apparently ignoring you. How do you think about it?
If you think he/she ignored you, they don't like you, it's negative receiving. Along with the negative thought, you will feel low, sad and rejected. At the same time, you will experience stomach cramps, low energy and feel sick physically.
Unlike that, if you think- he might be busy or he didn't notice you, you can remain cool. This is positive perception. You won't feel any anxiety or stress with this positive look.
Like this, you may discover two perceptions for every incident or situation. The perception you hold decides your state of mind. If you take the situation negatively, you'll feel anxiety. And if you have positive perception, you'll remain cool.
Besides, it is important to have some kind of relaxation or 'de-stress' strategy whenever you need it. So you must learn meditation or self-hypnosis which induces great relaxation and calmness.
Doing exercises such as aerobics and yoga regularly will also help you a lot in being cool. Never worry too much about your anxiety and nervousness. You just focus on the CBT skills and relaxing techniques.
Hopefully, this information is very useful to you. Follow the Cognitive Behavior Therapy and cure your Generalized Anxiety Disorder permanently!
