Ghostcast - Creating an Image of Your Hard Disk
|
Create a Boot Disk The very first thing that you'll want to do when you are going to use Ghostcast to create an image of your hard disk is to create a boot disk. This is important because you are going to need it so that the machine you are working on is going to boot up to DOS instead of going right into Windows when it boots up. So, get this disk ready to use. Connect to the Network The next thing you want to do if you plan on creating a new image of your hard disk with Ghostcast is to make sure that you connect up to the network. The computer you are working on and the one that you plan on using to put image on must be on the network. Once you have these both on the network, you are ready to get more involved with the process. Start the GhostCast Utility Now it is time to actually start up the special Ghostcast utility. You will do this by booting up with the boot disk, then going to the server computer and clicking the start button, then to programs, then to Symantec Ghost, and then into the server for Ghost Cast. Create Image and Store It Now you are ready to create the image. Make sure that you have a session name and then select the option to create an image. Browse for where you want to store this image. If you plan on doing the entire hard disk, then you'll want to choose the option for "Disk." However, you can only do a certain portion by choosing "partition" instead. Confirm and Send After you have this done, then you need to confirm the image. Use Ghostcast to compress the image you have, then you will need to confirm it and click "yes" when it asks you about confirmation. Then all you need to do is send in the server computer. When ever you hit the send button, this image will be stored right where you decided to have it sent. It will let you know when it is totally stored. Then you are all done with this simple process.
