Different gases in the atmosphere act like glass in a greenhouse, allowing sunlight through to warm the earth's surface but trapping heat as it radiates back into the space, creating an increase in the mean temperature of the earth's surface. After the late 1800's, the global mean temperature has rised about 0.7 to 1.4 degrees F (0.4 to 0.8 degrees C). Global warming is regulated not by singular meteorological events, but by the global mean surface temperature. North America did go through a quite normal winter in 2006-2007, and some parts had extremely cold weather this year. Greenhouse gases are an air pollution problem, and all air pollution problems of the past have required significantly less to fix than tought, while decreasing more rapid than believed. This gives cause to wish that unconventional greenhouse gases can be contained fairly inexpensively and without twisting the global economy. Greenhouse gases are exhausted by activities such as the combusting of fossile fuels, land modyfying, and agriculture. Other phenomena such as sun variations and volcanoes have had less and likely bad cause. Global warming is already under way. The evidence is strong and the urgency of requiring doing something is getting clearer with every new scientific study. We have ten years maximum, to commence making acute decreases to our greenhouse gas emissions, or we will face severe consequences. The good news is that there is something we can do, but only if the earth's assorted governments acts right away and asserts their influence on the rest of the earth, especial such emerging countries as India and China, to link up in an planetary effort to prevent the global warming.
