Go Kart Frames - What You Need To Know About The Perfect Chassis
|
The frame is also known as the chassis, as fans of go karts are calling it. You cannot have a sturdy reliable go kart without a frame to hold everything together. Go karts frames are made from torsion bars that are welded together in a way that allows for the best speed and design. Some models have frames made of short bars, while others have frames made of longer bars. Short bars make for stiff go karts. This design is left more and more behind because of its lower reliability. The frame is very much at stake at any move that the go kart makes. The acceleration, the turnings, the transfer of weight, all weighs on the frame, so it is very important to have a good one. The frame can also be responsible for how well a go kart does on the tracks. Lets talk a little about how go karts behave on the tracks. We know that speed is very important, but any advance gained on a straight line can be lost at curves, so knowing how to make a turning is of major importance. Here comes the role of the frame again. You surely do not want a go kart that slides left and right after taking a curve. If you have a good solid frame, the kart will remain on the asphalt and it will not drift carelessly. This skill is named side bite. For keeping your go kart on tracks, you need a good design for your frame and especially, for the front and rear rails. They need to be very solid in order to maintain side bite. For instance, if the rear rails are too narrow, the side bite cannot be maintained properly. The perfect frame does not exist actually, but if you are interested about the subject, you need to know that you can have perfect frames if you choose right according to the type of terrain the go kart runs on. If it runs on dirt, a frame with a short front rail and a longer back rail is great, but the model must be inversed when you decide to go for asphalt and concrete tracks. The stability of the go kart also depends on the tire traction. Your tires must stick to the ground well enough so the go kart does not drift off the tracks. If you have bad tires and a stiff frame, you cannot get any worse. So choose tire that can stick to the ground. We showed the drawback in a stiff frame. Many people choose frames made of longer bars, because they are more flexible, but they are not perfect either. Due to the action of the conditions on the tracks, flexible frames get damage all the time and they cannot be repaired easily. It is advisable to get a new frame every year, but if you are a skillful go kart driver, you can keep your frame in good shape for a longer period of time. There are some simple rules about having a good frame for your go kart. You must avoid some mistakes. A stiff frame is very hard to maintain on the track. Also, you must not forget about tires. Tires with high traction make turnings hell, while low traction tires cannot keep the go kart on the track. It is better to choose a more flexible frame and your go kart will behave better on the track. About The Author: Alphonso Sirtle is the Editor and Publisher of Article Click.
