One of the cutest hybrid dogs out there is the Golden Doodle. It is a medium sized dog but one that you will definitely appreciate the overall appearance of. It is derived from one parent being a Golden Retriever and the other being a Poodle. You only want to get one if both parents are purebreds though so be very careful about who you buy them from. If possible ask to see the parents of the puppies as well as their papers documenting that they are purebreds.

The Golden Doodle was first bred in the mid 1990's and has been very successful in capturing the hearts of people. One of the reasons why they have done so well is that they don't shed. Many people with dogs hate that part of the entire process so they do their best to go with a dog that sheds very little. Those will allergies have found the Golden Doodle to often be a dog that they can have as a companion without making them miserable.

Since they are lovely dogs with a great temperament, they are often chosen as a dog for a family. Some of them have a coat that is like they Golden Retriever - straight and pretty. Others have a curly coat like the Poodle does. It may be fine, thick, or wiry depending upon the genetics that are from the parents. You can have a litter of Golden Doodles with various colors and characteristics for this very reason.

Full grown, a Golden Doodle will average from 60 to 70 pounds. The males tend to be larger than the females. You do have to be careful that they get enough exercise though as they can easily be overweight if you don't. Some times they are prone to eat even when not hungry so don't offer them more food than your veterinarian recommends. That is a characteristic found in many Golden Retrievers.

You will find a Golden Doodle to be a great companion. They are very intelligent animals and can even be trained to hunt for birds. Most of them love the water and have a natural ability to swim. They are often very healthy animals and not prone to any chronic health concerns. The biggest problem seems to be with the hips but that is often found in dogs of this size.

They are affectionate and love to play. They are best when kept outdoors though due to their size. They need plenty of room to roam. A daily walk with you is a great way to make sure both of you get the exercise you need. They do thrive with attention though so make sure plenty of it is offered.
