Golf Green - Almost Impossibly Flawless
|
So how does a course owner keep a golf green looking so good all the time? It starts before the grass is ever planted or laid out. There is a system under that golf course that you can't see but that keeps a perfect and constant amount of water, nutrients, and soil aeration. Normally there is a water system below the ground that constantly feeds the grass just the right amount of water, and there is gravel or sand mixed with the soil to make sure that it is getting the right amount of oxygen. A golf green is a very spoiled lawn! Only the absolute best industrial strength grass is used for a golf green; anything less superior and the owner would have more trouble than they could deal with. The grass is fed nutrients constantly while it is growing in and once it is grown in, and though it must be constantly cut, it is cut to a calibrated level. It needs to be kept short enough for the golfers but not so short that its health is being compromised. A course owner must hire maintenance workers to practically stand over the golf green 24 hours a day to make sure that its perfection is always maintained. This is why most homeowners simply aren't going to put the work into their lawns that golf course owners do. Also, the expense can be hefty. One thing that homeowners can do, however, is take a few tips from golf course owners and maintenance workers to make their lawns better. Aeration, nutrients, buying the best grass, the right amount of watering; all of these things can make a big difference in how a lawn looks. About The Author: |
