Good Luck Quotes Can Be Funny or Serious

Wishing someone good luck is a common practice worldwide. It may be done just as a general wish for good luck or it can be specific to something like beginning a new business, engaging in athletic competition, or even getting married. Since every culture has its own unique ways of wishing good luck this has led to many different good luck quotes. Some good luck quotes can be humorous like the famous Irish quote, May you be in Heaven half an hour before the devil knows your dead. Of course, many of them are for very serious moments such as wishing someone Good Luck and God Speed before they have major surgery.

Of course the use of good luck quotes raises the question of whether there is even any such thing as luck. It is certain that good things happen to people and so do bad things and many people attribute at least some of these events to luck. For example, almost everyone would say that someone who wins a large lottery jackpot got lucky. Even some of the most famous figures in history such as Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin seemed to be firm believers in luck. The same can be said to be true of business leaders like Donald Trump. In fact there are good luck quotes attributed to scientists who would appear to be unlikely to believe in luck.

For some people the use of good luck quotes is simply a habit and doesnt really mean anything when they use one of them to wish someone good luck. For other people the wishing of good luck is very meaningful and is not done lightly. Of course, there are also people that try to manipulate luck. This includes the carrying of good luck charms such as a rabbits foot or a lucky coin. In some cases such as the placing of a horse shoe pointing upward over a barn door is considered a way to ward off bad luck. Many athletes and sports fans will go to great links to ensure good luck before starting a game or a competition.

This can involve anything from using certain good luck quotes to engaging in certain rituals before starting. At this point the belief in luck becomes a superstition. Baseball players seem to be the worst when it comes to believing that the outcome of the games can be influenced by luck. They will insist on using certain bats as an example or will turn their caps around backwards in the dugout when trying to rally their teammates.
