Government Accountability
|
These days more and more of us are tuned into government accountability. For years government went along their merry way doing what they wanted when they wanted with very little accountability to the tax payer who funds all their projects. But times they are a changing. Today people are demanding allot more government accountability then ever before. Government is the largest employer in the entire world. They hire and manage more employees than any other organization or country in the history of modern man. The question that the tax payers are now asking is one with merit. They want to know if these elected officials who are responsible for all this hiring are actually managing the work force in an effective manner. Remember these elected officials who are responsible for all these employees are actually hired and fired by us the tax payer. No longer are we willing to sit back and trust what they are doing. We are asking for more information and demanding more answers than any other time in history. We are demanding that government employees be treated by the same standards as other workers. We are demanding they no longer get special labor contracts, higher standards of pay for the equivalent job done by a non government worker. We are no longer willing to give government workers cushy severance packages. Of course it will be some time before we see any dramatic changes to the way government hires and deals with employees. The internet has also made our elected politicians much more acceptable. No longer do we have to sit on hold waiting to speak to them, or leave a dozen messages in hopes of receiving a telephone call back. We can simply send an email noting our complaints or questions. And these days we expect an answer. We aren’t satisfied in being placed in a file or tossed in the trash. We are demanding much more from our elected officials. Elected officials are very quickly beginning to realize that unless they deal with their constituents their life in politics is going to be short lived. We don’t forget quite as easily as we use to and we aren’t as quick to buy into the jargon they like to feed us at election time. We’ve become quite skeptical when it comes to government officials. Have you ever noticed those that have been in office the longest tend to be so comfortable in their positions they tend to put accountability on the back burner. However in recent years this is beginning to backfire on them as they are not re-elected. We’ll even go so far as to elect a no namer that we’ve never heard of to get our point across. No longer is their job security within the government. Can you imagine what our country could accomplish if government employees and government officials were truly accountable for every dime they spent? Can you imagine how much money could be saved? How waste could be dramatically reduced? It is a possible dream! As more of us become aware of the waste and unaccountable actions of our government more and more demand more from the elected officials and their staff. If we continue on this trend within the next 20 years we could see dramatic changes in how the government does business. It’s time you do your part! Demand your elected official be accountable. Don’t hesitate to contact him or her. Ask tough questions and demand answers. Only when we as a population unite will we be able to see the accountability we deserve. And with accountability may come tax reductions which could benefit us all. About The Author: Aura Mirchandani is the Editor and Publisher of Article Click.
