Most of the times when you hear someone talking about Green Day, they refer to the well-known musical band. The Green Day band became very popular in the past 10 – 15 years and has many devoted fans who continue to support the band. In this article we will provide several facts about the Green Day band and some information that will be interesting to current and prospective fans. The Green Day band is a California based band. The style of the Green Day can be classified in different ways but the closest classification would probably be the pop punk and punk rock style of music. The albums created and released by Green Day influenced the whole musical direction and the lyrics of other bands that released albums in the same musical category. Many newer bands became popular because of the existence and popularity of Green Day. The three main members of the Green Day are Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tré Cool. Billie Joe Armstrong is the lead singer and a guitar player. Mike Dirnt is the backing singer and bass. Tré Cool is the drums player and backing singer. Another member - Jason White – joined the Green Day as the supporting guitarist starting from the release of the band’s sixth album. At this time the Green Day group released seven major albums and multiple singles. The first album was released in July 1991 and was called “Smoothed Out / Slappy Hours”. The next album was released on January 1992 and was called “Kerplunk”. Two years later the third album was released. The third album – “Dookie” – was released in February 1994 and became especially popular. The “Dookie” received a diamond certification. This means that there were more than 10 million album copies shipped in the United States of American. This album was one of the main factors that contributed to the band’s success. Many people became the Green Day fans because of the influence of the lyrics that was recorded on the “Dookie” album. In October 1995 the Green Day band released their forth album called “Insomniac”. The fifth album didn’t appear until two years later and was released in October 1997. This album was called “Nimrod”. After another three years the Green Day band released another album named “Warning”. The release date was set for October 2000. The lyrics style in three albums above differed somewhat but followed the main style of the band. The last released album (the seventh) was the most popular album released by the Green Day band. The release date was September 2004 and the album was called the “American Idiot”. This album received the quadruple platinum certification in the United States of America. This happened because there were more than eleven million copies sold around the world, including the United States sales. The success of this album contributed significantly to the success and popularity of the Green Day band. Another important thing to mention is the fact that the “American Idiot” album by Green Day band won the Grammy Award for best rock album in 2005. The 2005 also brought Green Day band the MTV Video Music Awards in seven nominations. The “American Idiot” album and the Green Day band also received the American Music Award for favorite album.
