Grim Reaper Costume - A Scary Project

Halloween costumes are fun when they are scary. Though just about anything goes these days, scary is still best most of the time. If you are considering making a Halloween costume for your child, or even for yourself, you may want to consider a grim reaper costume. The grim reaper has remained an ominous and frightening character for many years, and the costume still stands today as one of the scariest. Though there are no shortage of retail costume stores that sell grim reapers outfits, making one yourself can be a fun task and can save you a great deal of money. You can design it yourself or follow a pattern; either way you can add your own effects.

There are some different ways that you can go when making a grim reaper costume. You can look for a pattern and the fabric for the costume at most fabric stores. Around Halloween time, fabric stores will carry a large variety of costume patterns and fabrics. You can choose the pattern that has the size you need and buy the amount of fabric that is indicated on the pattern. This can be a safe way to make a grim reaper costume, and you can still add some extras to it. If you are more experienced and creative when it comes to sewing, you might want to consider making the costume from scratch. You can probably get the materials that you need from thrift stores, saving yourself a lot of money.

While you are making the grim reaper costume you want to make sure to keep safety in mind, especially if it is for a child. You want the costume to fit well, and you don't want any part of it to drag or flare out too much. This will guard against possibly getting it snagged on something or catching it on fire from a candle or jack `o lantern. Whether or not you will use a mask for the face, you want to make sure that whoever is wearing it will be able to see well in all directions. Since the costume tends to be rather dark, put some reflective tape on it if it will be worn by a child.

Have fun making your grim reaper costume. If it is for a child, let him help as much as he can. He'll love it if you ask him for ideas about what to add to the costume. Even if some of those ideas seems a little silly to you, use them anyway. It's his costume! If the costume is for you and you'll be wearing it to a Halloween party or to work, speak as little as possible. Your ominous silence will add to the scariness!
