Halloween celebration

Halloween is a popular holiday that is celebrated in many countries but particularly in United States and Great Britain. This is not an official holiday and is not set by government on the same level as such holidays as New Year or Independence Day. This is mostly a holiday by choice: some people decide to celebrate it and some don’t. Some people like Halloween and some consider it unsuitable.

The Halloween is mostly celebrated by children and younger teenagers. You will usually see that many children are dressing in special Halloween consumes. These costumes will differ and will depend in each person’s tastes and fantasy. The kids (sometimes accompanied by adults) will be walking from door to door with small bags and knocking on each door. The people who open the door (assuming they want to participate in the Halloween) will usually give candy and other small treats to the dressed up kids.

The symbol of the Halloween is the pumpkin. The pumpkin is emptied from the inside and the holes for eyes, nose and mouth are cut in it. Many people would also put a candle or a light inside it. The candle is used rarely due to the fire danger and the flashlight is most commonly used. The pumpkin by some person’s door usually means that that person is participating in the Halloween celebration and is expecting kids to knock on his or her door.

Some people will pay a lot of attention to Halloween. You will see that many people will put a lot of effort in preparing for this holiday. Families with kids will purchase or make Halloween costumes in advance and will spend a lot of money and effort on these costumes. They will also spend the whole evening on walking from door to door, sometimes in groups in a company of friends and neighbors.

Other people who are not actually walking on the street in the evening but would like to participate would purchase candy and various other smacks and treats. They will spend their evening at home, opening the door to most people who knocks on the door and giving away the treats.

You will even see special Halloween shops and stores. These shops open only during the Halloween celebration period and sell such things as Halloween merchandize, special Halloween costumes and many other items. Regular shops sell Halloween merchandise too. You will usually see a Halloween section open during the Halloween celebration week in major supermarkets. This section will include general Halloween merchandise (masks, pumpkins, etc.).

Other people, on the other hand, will not celebrate Halloween at all. They are not purchasing or making any costumes for their kids. They don’t get a hold of any candy and don’t put a pumpkin by the door. Some will not open the door if Halloween participants knock on it and some could even be offended if someone asks them to participate in Halloween.

The main reason why so many people don’t participate in Halloween is because they consider this celebration not in line (contrary) to their personal or religious beliefs. There are many people in this category and they see the Halloween holiday as a sinful (and sometimes immoral) activity. It is important to respect the beliefs of these people and not force them into Halloween celebration.
