Have You Tried Grilling Vegetables ?

We all know that steaming vegetables and eating them raw are good for you but there is another method that leaves them nutritious and so tasty! Have you tried grilling vegetables?

In the summer is the perfect time to use that grill. You can make more than burgers and hot dogs on a grill, although that’s all many people use them for. You can make some of the best meals you’ve ever tasted using your outdoor grill. And grilled vegetables are delicious!

Because the heat you are cooking with is dry it reacts with vegetables and causes a process called camelizing. What this means in English is the vegetables get a very sweet taste and are ever so good.

Grilled onions soften to a smooth buttery texture. Peppers absorb the smoke and take on a grilled meaty texture, and corn on the cob gets sweeter than sweet!

And if that’s not enough it actually takes less time to grill vegetables than it does to prepare them any other way except for raw of course.

Choose vegetables that are nice and fresh with good moisture content. Veggies that are on the dry side tend to shrivel up and loose their flavor when grilled. Mix it up a little with the color and have some fun. You can mix red, green, and yellow vegetables together and create an artistic meal. Not hot enough for you? Then add chili peppers or jalapeños.

There are few vegetables that can’t be grilled. Tomatoes grill nicely with a light layer of cheese. Zucchini is to die for. It doesn’t matter which vegetable you plan to grill just baste lightly with olive oil, add your salt and pepper and then grill. You can be creative and use cheese, vinegar, or any herbs.

If you are grilling tomatoes it’s best to have the grill on high and only turn them once before removing from the grill. Grilled tomatoes are actually a lot of fun. You can use them on sandwiches or bruschetta. You can make an appetizer out of them, or you can enjoy them freshly grilled.

You might also consider doing the equivalent of a vegetable stir fry but on the grill instead. You can slice up all your vegetables place them in an oven bag, or wrap in aluminum foil, add a couple of tablespoons of water and brush with oil. Within just a few minutes you’ll have a tasty dish ready to eat.

Grilled vegetables work well with any type of meat as a side dish or added to the meat itself. In fact you can make your whole meal in one of those oven bags in less than 30 minutes. Pick your meat, rinse prepare and toss it in the bag, slice up your potatoes, and add your grilling vegetables, baste with olive oil, and add a couple of tablespoons of water. Seal the bag, let cook for 15 minutes, flip and let cook for the remaining 15 minutes. It works great with chicken.

Never underestimate the power of the grill and never ever underestimate the relationship of the fresh vegetable to the grill. A little bit of experimenting and you’ll be serving up the best grilled vegetables in North America!
