Head Pressure - It May Be a Sinus Headache
|
Sinus Headaches - What are They? What are sinus headaches? Sinus headaches are a result of inflamed and blocked or congested sinuses. When one or more of these problems occur they can cause head pressure, which in turn can cause you pain and headaches. Symptoms of a Sinus Headache Some symptoms of a sinus headache are congestion with the headaches, pressure and pain in and around the eyes and on the cheeks and forehead. Facial swelling, nasal stuffiness, coughing, fatigue, and a green or yellow discharge of mucous are also symptoms of a sinus headache and they all can cause serious head pressure. However it should be said that you may be suffering from a sinus headache even if you do not seem to be showing any of the sinusitis symptoms noted. If you have tried to treat your headache with various treatments and you still have a persistent pain you should consult with your physician as soon as possible. Possible Causes Here are some possible causes for your head pressure or sinus headache. Exposure to a cold, allergy, or a sinus infection can cause sinus headaches to occur by making the mucous membranes swell causing congestion in your sinuses. When mucous and air is trapped in your sinuses and obstructs them you will feel pain often disguised as a toothache or a headache. If you were to lie down or even just bend over the head pressure will often become much worse. When it is cooler as in the fall or winter or you have dryer weather your sinus headache may get worse. Other things like cigarette smoke, pollen, and mold may trigger a sinus headache and the experience may become quite severe and painful. Relieving the Head Pressure and Headache Relieving the head pressure and your sinus headache can be accomplished by reducing the swelling and inflammation in your sinuses. Causing the mucous in your sinus cavities to drain will help to facilitate the relief of your head pressure and sinus headaches. About The Author: |
